The advice for pregnant women in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic remains reassuring – not only are transmission rates low in our community, but the disease does not appear to be worse in pregnant women compared to other population groups. This is not the case when it comes to influenza, however, where pregnant women are more vulnerable and can require the same kind of intensive care we are seeing on the news daily. The good news here is that influenza is not as contagious AND WE HAVE A VACCINE! It is freely available to all pregnant women through your GPs and local pharmacies, so whilst coronavirus is the virus of the moment, don’t forget to protect yourself, your baby and our community by getting your flu shot.
